Maaza Mengiste is a novelist, essayist, and Professor of English at Wesleyan University. The Shadow King, published by W.W. Norton in 2019 was shortlisted for the 2020 Booker Prize. She is one of the Spring 2026 fellows at the American Academy in Berlin.
